The Fair-haired Cassidy and Paddy Gavin's and The Priest And His Boots and The Commodore and The Charleston Reel

from There Were Roses by Mick Moloney, Robbie O'Connell, Jimmy Keane

/

about

Jimmy Keane learned The Fair-haired Cassidy (An Casaideach Bán), one of the most beautiful airs in the Connemara sean nos tradition, from the singing of his late father Jimmy “Horse” Keane (1928-1989).

The jig Paddy Gavin’s is from the great Balbriggan accordion player Paddy Gavin (1951-2016) and the second jig is The Priest And His Boots from O’Neill’s Music of Ireland, tune #968.

The Commodore Reel was composed by Billy McComiskey.

The Charleston Reel was composed by Jimmy Keane. Embarrassed at not having a name for it, we christened it during a live public radio broadcast of The Mountain Stage from Charleston, West Virginia.
